It was the first day of the 2025 rifle season. As usual I stay the weekend at my brothers, we got up at 3:30 AM to drive off to the Forest where my brother dropped me off at the top of the mountain ridge and drove 15 minutes down the road to the bottom of the mountain to start his hike and drive back up toward where I'd be sitting. I was on my way toward my spot which is a 2.5 mile hike in, while cold and dark. I finally got to my spot around 7:45 AM. After about an hour give or take of sitting and waiting I see a doe come in around 80 yards out, I pulled up my rifle and scoped it in, about 10 seconds away from pulling the trigger I hear footsteps look about 40 yards to my right and there is is, coming right toward me this nice 9 point buck. I scoped him in he was walking toward me, he wandered to about 40 yards from me and stopped broadside, and BOOM! Perfect lung shot, slowly wandered about 10 yards and fell. To think I was only 10 seconds or so from pulling the trigger on that doe!
